Integrated graphics vs dedicated graphics

Hi everyone! I purchased a new computer recently and wanted to use it for a bit of gaming (it has plenty of RAM, disk space and all that) but it has two graphics cards... One is an Intel HD graphics 4000 and the other is an NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M. I have a Windows 8 operating system and have no idea how to select the NVIDIA card as the one which will be used when I am gaming. I'm assuming that the NVIDIA card is better than the Intel card... Any help/suggestions would be much appreciated

Well the Intel HD 4000 is no slouch but really not meant for gaming as I can see it. It can play the heck out of high def movies and bluray.
The Nvidia graphics is more gamer friendly.
What system is it you have?
