Hello!
My Inspiron 8600 has been goin just a little bit crazy. As you can see in the attached picture, there are two problem spots on the screen. The one on the left with two lines has been there constantly ever since i got it. The one on the right the big white splotch, has come and gone but it has now been there for about 4 days and im starting to get kinda discouraged :) They are there from the moment to screen powers up til when it shuts down so i know it is not the OS. Also, when i plug in to a external monitor it the image on the monitor is perfectly fine. I am hoping that it is just the video card but im not so sure. Just PLEEEEAAASEEE dont tell me that its the LCD! (but seriously, tell me if thats it :)

The picture was too big so here is the link

Thanks,
Sean

Seeing as how you've hooked it up to an external monitor and the picture has been fine, this usually means that the lcd is the problem.
A quick run through the Dell support forum seems to indicate that your problem is caused by dead pixels. If your lappy is still under warranty obviously you'll want to get it serviced asap. Otherwise, here's a linky to ebay where you should be able to buy a new screen. They're actually not as spendy as I thought they'd be.

I think that the Inspiron 8600 also used a few different brands of lcds, I'd check into how to find what brand yours was so you can get a compatible replacement (or if it matters) on the Dell Support Forum. Some one there would be able to tell you.

yeah I was just thinking about the warranty. Dell usually charges an arm and a leg if you want replacement parts out of warranty.

the question is when you bought the computer was it used or new? If it is new you should return the computer to the store you bought it from and get it replaced. If it is used it was bacause the last owner had turned on like a vaccume clean around the computer which messed up the screen due to electormagnetic interfrences. In any case you need to replace the screen there is no way to fix lines and dots on your screen.
