I hope you do decide to join your local department, it's a very rewarding job. Speaking as a volunteer fireman myself I know how awful hard it is for a lot of departments to recruit and retain members. I'm sure they would be real happy to welcome an eager young dude like yourself.

It also looks like they have some nice equipment that foam is some awesome stuff (especially on car fires/fuel leaks) can't say I've ever used it on a grass fire before....although I'd sure like to try
