If it save's him using virtual memory (Laptop HDD's are often slow) then yes, I imagine it would be.

so like you said earlier, i just decided to go with 2 gigs so i dont have to mess around with anything else. i can allways get more ram later if i keep the laptop for a while.

Why's that? You can modify your boot.ini file to let programs use more than two GB, AFAIK.

Since when did he need to change the boot.ini file for his laptop?

Have you seen it? I highly doubt he purchased it for larger programs to be ran.

i got the computer to play WoW, i do alot of photoshop. i just got the adobe masters collection, and i also do alot with sony vegas 8.0 pro.

so not really big programs, but usually adobe and vegas are running at the same time. i also do alot of downloading

In that case, I would recommend getting a 64 bit operating system and putting as much RAM as you can.

i guess im going to try out the 2 gigs first for a little while. then upgrade it a little more later.

to my knowledge, didnt the computer have a recall on it or somthing for the motherboard? i cant remember. i do know i still have a year left on my warranty tho
