How will the monitor affect performance in games

In the case of lower resolution, it's easier to render much less pixels meaning the frames need to be drawn from the CPU much quicker making the CPU the bottleneck. In other words the GPU is so fast it's waiting on the CPU to feed it data. This is why some sites still use low resolution gaming to benchmark a CPU's speed for gaming. When you go up in resolution, a GPU has to work harder giving the CPU more idle cycles. so the CPU is waiting on the GPU to finish frames. In the case of vsync, the GPU is held back on how many frames it can output to your screen which causes input lag. Why we don't really talk about vsync around here.

It gets trickier when we involve Vulkan and DX12 which basically bypasses the CPU bottleneck due to them being a low level API. That's a whole different topic though, and not quite yet relevant to today's gaming.

All info is widely available online if you want to read more about it as this topic has been a thing for over a decade just like HT and gaming or the "more cores" argument.

No, coil whine is prevalent in pretty much all 970s and I'm not sure why.
