how to wipe an hdd

You can't do anything without internet access.

Quickest way is to just reformat it using a disc or connecting that HDD to another computer and formatting it that way.

If there is sensitive data on it I would just throw it in a closet. If not, dbn it and throw it away.

Sorry, most of the time I get this question when people are asking to get rid of their hard drives. This is a brain fart on my part (no rhyme intended).

If you just want to wipe it to get rid of a virus or so you can start fresh, just re-install Widnows or whatever OS you want. All the installs will format (read: wipe) the drive before they install. The data will still be there, though it will take a professional and some hard core software to recover it.
