How to remove thermal grease from CPU...

I recently had to clean thermal grease off my Core 2 Duo & heatsink. I used a damp paper towel to get most of it off (there's still a few smudges, but whatever). I never had to do that before, but due to me needing to get a new motherboard, it was required.

I just want to know, for future reference, the safest way to remove thermal grease from the CPU without screwing yourself over (water inside the chip and whatnot). Actually, I've yet to test to see if my Core 2 Duo even works after that. <_<

Thoughts?

take a Q tip and dip the tip in rubbing alchohol, squeeze out excess alchohol and rub away..

I read somewhere that rubbing alcohol was a bad idea... or was that nail polish remover? 0_o

I'll try that to get the smudges off. Thanks!

isopropyl alcohol works wonders for removing thermal grease. Use it.

Ya isopropyl and coffee filters work great since they don't leave any lint behind.
