How to perform an external data backup?

I am planning on restoring my computer to factory settings due to irus and spyware infections. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for a simple backup system like this one I found. I need to backup all of my data: documents, pictures, music, videos, etc. and to then restore the data back to the newly reformatted system. Any suggestions?

I would recommend Acronis True Image software. http://www.acronis.com/

I use it successfully on a personal and work level. It will make a complete image of your system (all system and personal files). When you need to restore your system, it will place the entire image back on the hard drive (all updates, settings, etc).

Be careful that none of the files you backup contain viruses/malware, or else you will be right back where you started.

+1 on Bucky's suggestion above, be very careful unless you know exactly where / what the infected files are.

in terms of my personal budget and plan, my friend's recently really been pushing me to use this online data backup. Has anyone had any experience with it?
