fro about 10 years now that stupid nvidia driver keeps defaulting to my non existent monitor speakers
i literally disabled everythign i know to do with it
in device manager on monitor in windows
lg monitor doesnt even have speakers
and im using display port not even HDMI
but that stupid driver keeps pulling my audio output back to itself. somehow it reactivates again and again and defaults back to it when i switch a monitor or sometimes after windows update or sometimes just randomly would pull my audio output from my default out to nvidia for no fn reason im extremely sick of that stupid driver doing this and i cant find any way to completely remove it from my system.

is there a registry edit i can use to just remove its existence forever?

You could go through literally all registry folders Plus Entries and delete anything relevant to the old monitor/ old monitor manufacturer and then restart. But this is dangerous as it could corrupt your OS or break something else that you can't fix without a full reformat and reinstall. And then if that does not work uninstall all Nvidia Drivers and Nvidia Programs, then re-install ONLY the Nvidia Video Card driver from their website. ( Assuming you have a separate sound card or use built in Audio from motherboard).

Otherwise your two choices would be to go to the Nvidia forums/Nvidia home website and ask there, OR back up all your data and programs and do a full reformat of your drives + fresh install anyways.

My gut is always " Nuke it from Orbit, it's the only way to be sure ". Well... dot dot. mostly at night.

There's no way to permanently get rid of it. You can use DDU to uninstall the whole Nvidia driver package, do a manual install and Windows Updates will still eventually pull a driver for it. Your audio output will always change any time you update drivers or unplug or replug a monitor in.

Best case scenario you go into the audio control panel (Sound settings, scroll all the way down and more sound options in W11), right click the window and show all disabled/disconnected devices, and disable every Nvidia audio output. This keeps it from changing for me until the next driver update.
