How to get rid of black color behind your icons

I posted this as a response to geek gal in the gallery section, but i though it may be useful to have it's own thread in case anyone else would like to get rid of the black background from behind their desktop icons.

To get rid of the black background behind your desktop icons, do this:

(in Windows XP)...Go under Start->Control Panel->Performance and Maintenance->System->Advanced->Settings(under Performance)->under Visual Effects, choose Custom->scroll to the bottom of the list and check "Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop".
