I've been building for people for about 2 yrs now and making some fair play money in the process but as of late with this economy I can barely find anyone willing to do a upgrade, Mostly people just wanting to get there system running good again, You know the home user that says "whats defrag" LOL So how many of you have been not doing business with this poor economy. I don't advertise, Just word of mouth because my price is good and they get what they want for far cheaper than Bestbuy, So they tell thier friends and they come to me. At this time last year I was building one every couple of weeks. Speaking of defrag hehe I just took a look at my new girlfriend PC that she said he son must have done something to, and I think there was one blue stripe in the sea of red..... Her HD was almost full too so I'm gonna add another HD for her sons MP3 collection so I CAN defrag it. only 367mb free LOL I got some schoolin to do with this girl LOL

I have noticed more companies after older systems to be repaired and kept live as long as possible when they really should be replaced, normally if I like them an there a contract client I sell them the hardware at cost and just charge for the build and installation except when that comes to server builds for that I always charge full price but i am still cheaper than my closet competition.

At the moment most customers are looking for the best deal and I am able to provide that so I haven't seen the economic drought hit me much, bar 3 clients shutting up shop for good most of the clients I have are loyal to me as ****.

I have given up system building a long time ago. I focus more on service and specialising in Point of Sales and CCTV system. If some one want to go down to Havery Norman (or any other Mass Murchant) for a computer, I really don't care. I make more on servicing computer than what I do for moving boxes. At the end of the day, I know that those shops can not offer the same level of service that I offer.

We sell a TON more laptops then desktops. Its like 3:1.

I used to build for people where i used to live. But when i was there i had not done it for about 9 months because no one wanted a new custom computer.

I'll probably try to start up again though once i get in my new house. The new house has a room in the basement where im gonna set up my server, a folding rig or two, and my htpc, so i will have the space to build and repair more computers at a time. Should do quite well.

Hopefully it hasn't dried up too much around here, but that's only going to be a small part of my business. I would love for it to be a bigger part...most of you know how much I love to price out builds and such, haha. But we'll see when school is back in session.

I have been trying to start a PC building type business. Ok, really i am just trying to offer compute building services to people by word of mouth. But, I was wondering, do you guys just buy your parts from newegg or did you guys get like a retailers license and all that? Also, when you build a PC do you give them a guarantee or anything?

when i did some i bought parts on sale, or that are overstock from sites. Then i would provide a 1 year service agreement (meaning if anything went wrong within the first year then i would fix it for free)
