How loud is too loud?

That isnt too bad for a 230mm fan in my personal opinion. Anything over 30DBA is considered TOO LOUD! I think that it should be a problem if you got that one. If you have a problem with it though, you can just buy another one with a lower DBA. Also, it you want, you can buy a fan controller for roughly $40 that would, of course, let you control the fan speed. Therefore, you would also control the loudness of the fan.
 
You can't really trust manufacturer ratings all that much. In general, 120MM fans start to make noise at 1200 RPM.
 
And what about 230mm ones?
they tend to move slower, moving more air due to bigger surface area, and make less noise.



and i have twice that many fans in my case, and its about as loud as a tv on low volume. i'll have to make a recording of it sometime for an example.
 
The thing is about big fans is that you can run them at slower speeds (if you get a fan controller) and flow lots of cfm still. Slower speed means less noise.
