How good are these?

For someone thats had experience with onboard, and dedicated, I wouldn't go back.
 
Nowadays, with manufacturers using dedicated chipsets and integrating them as onboard, it'll only be a matter of time before we just stick with onboard. I think some Gigabyte motherboards even use the Creative Sound Blaster Live! logic as onboard. :)

Those Philips speakers aren't bad, especially for $25.

That won't change the fact its using valuable CPU time, and still results in poorer quality than dedicated boards because of everything else moving around in a motherboard.

My dads laptop even picks up hard drive sounds, and no, the microphones not on.
