How do I set up SQL Server so I can access it from another computer over a network?

Hello all,

I want to be able to access my SQL Server on my computer from another computer on the network. Both computers have SQL Server installed now I just need to know how to configure the Host system and what ports I need to open on the firewall for example.

default network port is 1433.

what version of SQL? because express version require you to enable protocols using their config tool.

clients will need sql client tools installed or use odbc connections.
