I'm a little new to home servers, but my goal here is to start with a Vpn server that my friends and I can log in to and play games. I was messing with softether and it worked on and off, super flaky. Does anyone have some suggestions? Messed with softether for hours across a few days, I'm super mad with it right now. So I have come to the Internet for advice :)

I don't care if it is windows or linux based, I just need a gui to work with.

Eventually this will turn into a hardware firewall as well, maybe a nas or media PCI too, as it sits right next to our tv.

Hardware:
Phenom 2 1090t
3 gigs of ddr3
Xfx radeon hd 4550
160 gig wd hdd

Fyi - an 8 gig ram kit is in the cards, I will be ordering soon.

I don't use VPN for home use unless it's something like teamviewer.

One thing you will have to watch out for is your ISP. A lot of times they will block ports and connections that are VPN specific unless going over 443 or another common port.
