My name is Rohan and I recently joined this forum site. I'm somewhat experienced in the computer area. But, I always have a lot of questions to ask! I just recently purchased an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz processor. This is the retail version. I spent $190.00 on it and bought it from Newegg.com. I am pleased with my purchase after reading 1000's of reviews and watching hundreds of video reviews. I'm very careful with my purchases and especially since the recession is going on and money is tight for my family. I still need to purchase a motherboard and some RAM. I do plan on over clocking my cpu, but not the motherboard and RAM. Can anyone please give me any suggestions on affordable yet effective merchandise? I do a lot of gaming and movie watching. I don't want to spend too much more but, I am open to all suggestions. Thank you!

Hey there Rohan,

Congrats on getting the Q6600. It is definitely a winner in my book. :)
Regarding the motherboard and the RAM, there are many choices you can go with that will work and are affordable. I point you to WorshipMe's guide that gives you good examples of "sample builds." Any of these would work for you, whether you pick the budget or the performance parts.

Here are a few of his suggestions that might work for you:

Motherboard:

I myself have an ASUS P5K-E motherboard and Corsair XMS2 ram and love the combination along with my Q6600. Like yourself, I had plans to overclock the Q6600 and have successfully pushed it to 3.4GHz at my height of overclocking. Due to high ambient temperatures in my room, I have lowered my overclock to 3.2GHz to prevent unnecessary overheating.

If you have any other questions, let us know, and welcome to CF!

Thanks for the help, guys! Really, for me, cheaper is better. Money is tight and I had to do a lot of moving around and sacrificing for the processor. I plan to buy a motherboard in the next 2 weeks. I hope my processor isn't a DOA, haha. I will have to purchase RAM in the next month or so. I also need to buy a case and etc. I am going to be using the graphic card I have now. It's an ATI HD 2600 PRO. I don't care what people say about this card. I love it! For $100.00, it's more than enough for me. I'll upgrade to higher end cards after saving up for a few months. But, right now, I just need to worry about getting a case, motherboard and some RAM.
