Help Win XP

Tried to load Win XP over win 98se and had to cancel.Now when I start my system I have to choose from win xp (not installed) and 98se.
How can I remove the Win XP choice from the boot up screen?

Do a file search for Boot.ini when you find it, delete it. If you are still only using Win98, that should work fine.

Make sure you have system files unhidden.

Deleting boot.ini caused my system to be unable to boot.

This is my boot.ini file:

[Boot Loader]
Timeout=5
Default=C:\$WIN_NT$.~BT\BOOTSECT.DAT
[Operating Systems]
C:\$WIN_NT$.~BT\BOOTSECT.DAT="Microsoft Windows "
C:\="Microsoft Windows"

hmm, odd, doesnt do that in the NT OS's

do this:

delete this line

C:\$WIN_NT$.~BT\BOOTSECT.DAT="Microsoft Windows "

change this to 1 or 0, whichever works.

Timeout=5

Removing that line did not work.

However I got a boot.ini (below) from a computer with a similar config and that worked.

[Boot Loader]
Timeout=5
Default=C:\

[Operating Systems]
C:\="Microsoft Windows 98"

if you're still having problems with dual booting:
remove dual boot

or for the printer-friendly page:
remove dual boot 2
