help!!!!! some advice needed

hi people,
new to this so here goes..

im just looking in to just squeezing alittle more out of system. its 3-4 years old now.

i have an asus maximus extreme mobo, just wondering weather i can run 3 graphics cards on this board. there is a spare slot i just not sure weather it will support.

secondly if it does except 3 cards, can i do the following?
im running 2 ati 3870's in crossfire. im wondering if a ati 3870x2 and 2 of ati 3870 would crossfire.

this would be three graphics cards but quad gpu....

any ideas..

It may support 3 cards (I'm not too sure if I'm honest), but if you're really wanting a good upgrade you'd be best going for a newer card, rather than getting another old card
