Does anyone here know how to set up an FTP server? i want to set it up on my computer that is running 24/7 so that i can have access to my files anywhere using the web or ftp client.
any help would be great!!

Here's a couple of links for setting up a home FTP server:

1. For using Serv-U FTP (others like FileZilla, SmartFTP, CuteFTP are excellent as well) http://lifehacker.com/software/home-server/how-to-set-up-a-home-ftp-server-130806.php

2. For using Windows XP FTP: http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=1491

I'd go with option 1 though ... I've used FileZilla and like it, but the steps are basically the same using Serv-U FTP.
I've used Serv-U before and it's a great FTP server, thats what I'd recommend as well. It's not free though, but it's super easy to set up. Once you set up a username and pw, all you have to do is put in your IP address into any browser and you will have instant access to your files. But having an FTP client on the computer that is accessing it would be best. If you don't though, using an internet browser will suffice. I used CuteFTP pro for my ftp client, which also costs money, but is awesome.

It's my understanding that the Personal Edition is free.

" ... best part of all is that the personal version which allows for two FTP logins is completely free."

Hmm, I didn't know that. Of course I used it a couple years ago, I don't think they had a free version back then. Thats cool that they offer a free version now because it's a good program.
