Ok i tried ERD commander and it couldn't recover any files and that program harper recommended keeps saying there is an error when i try to use it. Is there anything else i can still do.

Or should i just suck it up and reformat that partition.

Put the drive in a freezer bag (squeeze all the air out...protection from moisture). Put it in the freezer for at least several hours. Take it out, pop it back in, and scramble to get your data while it is still cold.

What would it make a difference if it is cold are not?

Have never heard anything like that before.

I dunno. All I know is that it works sometimes.

apparently it works by contracting the arm of the HDD away from the platters or something like that

It is a maxtor 160gig 8 mb cache and is hardly even a year old. The partition that won't work is 91gig.

Believe it or not, I have had problems with both WD and Seagate, but not Maxtor. I'm not really a loyal costumer, so you don't have to scold me :surprised.

Anyways try the freezer thing and good luck.

What program did you use in ERD? There's two, Disk Commander and FileRestore.

I tried both programs. The programs say that they can not mount the disk.
Maybe i will try that freezer thing.

You might want to backup the good data that you could first, before proceeding.
