Help please...

I have a problem. The computer im working on boots up to the desktop screen, but with no icons, no start menu...nothing. 'Explorer.exe' is running, and i've also tried booting to safe mode. But so far, I havn't had much luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Oh and the bios has a password on it and so does 'Administrator.

Any ideas?

DO you know whats wrong with the PC i.e. is there a virus or hardware failure or something specific?
CAn you access the taskmanager and have you tried booting to a command prompt?

A repair installation might be a quickfix solution.

Did you set the password for the BIOS and the Administrator account? If not then it sounds as if your system was hijacked and taken over. If that is the case then you have no choice but to try and run a virus scan. But i dont think that will work. Might haev to format and reinstall.

Yeah thats what I was thinking. It's my friends computer, and I didn't set the passwords. But I don't have the cd's or drivers to re-install. I spoke to him earlier, I think he may be getting another friend to do it who in which has the right materials to do so.
