Help Me Please

I just got my first computer game, Quake just cuz it was really cheap and my friends favorite old game. I downloaded it and everything, but when I try to open the DOS program, it pops up for a second and then dissapears. Could someone tell me how to get this game working, and explain it how a 14 year old kid can understand it. Thank you.

Cud u plz explain details, ur not clear though . Check whether the installation is corrupted,are there any other error messages? Other wise ,Download and try again.

If you are in Windows XP, you'll have to run it in Compatibility Mode. To set up Compatibility Mode, right-click the game's .exe file and select properties from the drop down menu.
