The syntax is clean and read able, and it will give you a good stepping stone to go on to greater things. Head over to Python Programming Language -- Official Website and install the software which comes with the interperter and a very nice IDE. Then point your browser at http://python.org/doc/and chose a tutorial that is on your level.
