well i decided to get a new hsf as the stock amd one that came with my 3800X2 was a peice of shit. After removing the hsf what should I use to clean the thermal compound off the processor. the video on the amd website just said a wipe does that mean just any old generic wipe or what??

what i did was, when i purchased a new processor, it came with a specail alcohol based cloth..

Use isopropyl alcohol and a Q-tip

Use a Xylene based cleaner like GooOff - the odor is strong so use in a well ventilated area. Its best on those hard to remove gunk from thermal pads. For best results, dampen a cloth with goo off and place it on top of the cpu die only and apply light pressure. After a couple of minutes, wipe the cpu clean. Then use high purity isopropyl alcohol using q-tips to remove any impurities.
