ok so i just put together this new comp ati-4850 dual core cpu, P5Q-VM motherboard. and i hooked up the HDMI to my TV and i have no sound. was wondering if its got to do with software or hardware or if the comp doesnt support sound through the HDMI cable

do you have a sound card?
it might be that your mobo sound is doing the work for you

i do no not have a soundcard. im cheap like that

You'll need to go into your sound properties and set the HD 4850 as your default sound device.

Another reason could have been the "SPDIF out" cord which connects from the gfx card to the motherboard. It is required in order to receive HDMI audio.

you dont need any additional cables for HDMI audio
