Anyways, changes and so will be on the way.

This is only a budget in mind, trying to get best price to performance ratio.

So were looking at $288

Input/suggestions is greatly appreciated, because ive been away from building computers for a long while now.

This is what she is coming from

I would get the Athlon x2 5600+ if its in your budget range. Everything else looks pretty ok for a decent pc.

Yeah, the cd drives are plug and play. Also, get the motherboard with the integrated graphics, that way you can save a couple extra bucks, unless you want better graphics performance.......but you can always get that later.

CD drives are pretty standard and should work with the new motherboard, as long as there is a spare IDE controller on the motherboard (which I'm sure still has at least one).

Both of those motherboards looks like they use integrated graphics. If you really want to cut down on cost, you don't really need to purchase a video card. Just plug the monitor into the back of the motherboard. Both motherboards you linked has an extra PCI-express x16 in case you do want a video card in the future or maybe you just straight out want a dedicated video card. But if cost is a concern, you can get the graphics card later.

All the parts you linked looks good and should work. If she's into performance, perhaps a faster RAM (DDR2 800) is good. For CPU, get as high as you can afford.

basic stuff for a teenager, aka AIM\MSN\Myspace\etc. at least thats what i can tell by the build specs, a 4200+ will be plenty of power, my 3600+ at stock run very well, and if she ever needs any more juice, you can just throw a aftermarket cooler on there and OC it a little.

Even then I still don't think it would be worth risking stability for something like that.

What is she going to be using it for?

Normal stuff... aim/msn/myspace downloading music watching youtube things etc. Although I did give her photoshop and indesign and she loves to fool around with those programs.

I dont think the first one uses integrated graphics.. But I guess maybe it does, and even if it does I have an x300 Gcard she could use.

yeah you're right. And I dont really want to tamper with any of that when its not mine. So she will be keeping stock speeds. Hmm, i gotta find a heatsink huh. Recommendations?

Or do I even need one?

Yeah, im not going to.

In the first motherboard link, I found this:

"...integrated GeForce 6100 GPU for high-definition video processing with maximum resolutions up to 1920 x 1440..."

FOr the CPU, I would just get this:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ Brisbane 2.3GHz 2 x 512KB L2 Cache Socket AM2 65W Processor - Retail
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103776

Now, you don't have to worry about a heatsink because it comes with a fansink all in one. It has a better core for not that much more. Plus, free shipping and in stock.

Oh yeah I noticed that too, it didnt register with me :stupid:

Anyways, I would be shopping on newegg but for some reason my isp WONT load newegg.

Seriously, its the gayest thing ever...

Although that page did pop up, but see now, it wont load anything else.

So bizzare.
