GIGABYTE Unveils Industry-leading AMD 800 Series Motherboards

GIGABYTE TECHNOLOGY Co., Ltd, a leading manufacturer of motherboards, graphics cards and other computing hardware solutions today unveiled an exciting range of motherboards based on the highly anticipated AMD 890FX, 880G and 870 chipsets. The new models are the GA-890FXA-UD7, GA-880GMA-UD2H and GA-870A-UD3, all of which support the AMD Phenomâ„¢ II X6 six-core processors, native SATA 6Gb/s (via the SB850 Chipset) and ATI CrossFireXâ„¢/Hybrid CrossFireXâ„¢ multi-GPU technologies. The new additions also boast unique GIGABYTE technologies such as Auto Unlock that enables hidden CPU cores, On/Off Charge for enhanced iPhone/ iPad/iPod Touch charging, USB 3.0 and 3x USB power that distinguish them as industry leaders in this market segment.

I thought I saw a board on newegg made by Asus that had a utility to unlock cores in AMD CPU's.

Yes, will my mobo, after flashing the Bios to support AM3, be able to support the new Phenom II X6's? As in it's the same socket size as AM2+? I wasn't sure if AM3 sockets changed any but I figured they didn't since my motherboard could be flashed to support them.

Just wanted to be 100% sure as I desperately need a CPU upgrade and I may as well go big and hold out for a few more years then.

it's likely that your mobo will support some newer cpus, but idk about the new x6's. because some mobos will have a limitation to like, cpus with a max tdp of 95w or something.

what mobo do you have? if you can look up your mobo's cpu compatibility list, it should say whether or not it does support em.

****, I would not go on compatibility charts for the Thuban right now. Boards by ASUS that were designed to work with the Thuban, don't even have them listed as compatible. Most of ASUS' website doesn't even have Thubans in the compatibility charts yet.
