Gigabit Ethernet *resolved*
*resolved* I figured out the problem is the server. The computers hardware and its cables are too old of a standard to support gigabit speeds.
I recently upgraded to Gigabit Ethernet. I understand its limits due to HDD speeds. What I don't understand is that I can get speeds around 110 Megabits per second when I upload to a LAN FTP server, but I am downloading at 8 Megabits per second.
I set the servers NIC to full duplex at 1000Mbps. My workstation NIC does not have the option for full duplex at 1000Mbps, only 10 and 100Mbps. Although, the workstation says the connection speed is 1Gbps.
The workstation is using a nForce 780i SLI board, connecting through on-board Ethernet. The OS is Server 2008 converted to a workstation.
The server is using a Trendnet PCI gigabit NIC. The OS is windows XP.
They both have the same hard drives.
I think it may have something to do with the servers NIC or PCI. Anyone have any ideas?
