Getting a SATA card to recognise drives

The integrated sata ports on my motherboard have completely failed and now refuse to work at all, I've bought a sata raid card off ebay to use instead and am just using an ide drive to boot windows from however windows doesn't display the four sata drives in explorer or storage manager, is there some setting that i'm missing or have i set something up wrong?

You explained your own problem and the result. If the motherboard SATA ports have completely died, even if you get Windows to boot on a separate device, you won't be seeing those SATA drives.

So to clarify the bottom line I need a new motherboard?
