Found a Harman Kardon reciever in the dump today

Fired it up, HOLY $%^%$#$&^%#&%#&$!!!

Blinding green spark plus ominous blue smoke of imminent doom. What should I do with it? There probably should have been speakers actually hooked up to it, no?

Shame, they were a top class receiver in their day, and having no speakers hooked up wouldn't cause it to smoke.

How old is the thing?

It has a sticker on the back that says 11/98 so I'm guessing it was cranked out November 10 years ago.

Doesn't seem too old. I still have an Sansui amplifier from 1986.

Well I fired it up again and I'm getting an orange and/or red led for the power light. No smoke or sparks, but looks like the display is no longer working. I saw it come on for a split second on the first run.
