I am trying to find a way to write and display Arabic Script font. I've tried downloading some fonts from the interweb, but when I open Word and try it out, it just types regular o'l english text. How do I get it to work?

Word is crap. Try it in notepad, and make sure you've downloaded the right crap. MacBooks come with pretty much every language in the world that can be written.
