Hello everyone!

Some months ago my PC just shut down on me. When I tried to reboot it by pressing the power button it didn't react. I've tried plugging it in in different sockets etc, nothing works. This is most likely a problem with the Power Supply I presume? Please do correct me if I'm wrong.
Anyway, I'm going to have that problem fixed today at a computer store and since the PC is already 6 years old I'm probably going to let them install a new graphics card to I can play the latest games on medium graphics settings at least :p. I was thinking about The Witcher 2, which requires quite some bestiality from the rigs.
I was wondering, would it do me any good to place a brand new graphics card in a 6 year old PC and expect it to run games like one of about 2 years old, for example?
If so, could you guys point me to some good graphics cards (max. 300 euro) that would be up to the task?

Thanks!

If your system uses a AGP slot for its graphics card. I would not spend any money upgrading it.
If your system uses a PCI-E 1.0/1.1 slot for its graphics card. Anything more powerful than a 8800/9800 GTX would probably be wasted money.
If your system uses a PCI-E 2.0 slot for its graphics card however, features DDR1 memory. Then I would not bother upgrading past an 8800.
If your system uses a PCI-E 2.0 slot for its graphics card however, features DDR2 memory. Then the GTX 200 series is probably the best you will get without a bottleneck.
If your system uses a processor based on netburst or older; then I would not upgrade it. If this a AMD system. I would not bother upgrading it unless it features an AM3 or AM2+ cpu socket.
I personally would not invent much more money into it anyways. Especially if it's an Intel build with a socket older than 775.

Thanks man! Now I'm really leaning towards buying a new PC xp
Does anyone have any idea how much it'd cost me to buy one with these specs:

CPU:Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2 GHz or similar AMD
RAM:1 GB for Win XP / 2 GB for Win VistaVGA:Nvidia GF 8800 512 VR or similar ATIDX:DirectX 9.0cOS:Windows XP/Vista/7
Or how about these specs?

CPU:Intel Quad Core or AMD equivalent RAM:3 GB for Windows XP / 4 GB for Windows Vista and Windows 7 VGA:Nvidia GeForce 260, 1 GB memory / Radeon HD 4850 with 1 GB memory DX:DirectX 9.0c OS:Windows XP/Vista/7
Thanks!

Yeah I would say £300 / $400, If you go for the Intel Core 2 processors I would recommend to go for the quad core version
