Fitted new PSU: Now won't post

The 'p4' connector is not for pentium 4's. It's just connector #4 (I believe). It should be a four-pin that plugs into the motherboard to provide more power via two +12v rails. Make sure that is plugged in or it won't POST.
 
It's booting fine without it.

Not all boards have the socket for this, I was under the impression it was pentium 4s that did, indeed, the original PSU didn't even have the connector on it.

It may be that other mainboards besides those for pentiums require the connector, but this one certainly doesn't.

You are right it was developed for intel p4's and amd picked up on it as well with later model's
