Just pay attention and listen well to the guy next to you.

Basic driving skills you'll probably start of in a car park or something learning how to change gear and stuff like that. Good luck!

Now seems like a good time to make some sort of joke about people that only drive automatics, but it's too early here for me to think of one

clutch in, dump it accidentally, drop into 1st at 20 MPH, rev the nuts off the engine, etc

At the time of writing he last signed in the day of his lesson. Presumably before. If we don't hear, perhaps we can assume the worst...
