First build - nothing shows up onscreen

did you try the different slots? when i got pc from a friend i had to put them on the last slot for the moniter to detect soemthing but not all cards have to be in the last slot

Its obviously not posting so if you can tell us if its beeping we can figure out the source of the problem.

No, it's in the primary slot, should I try the secondary (sli compatible)?

Sure, I'm not sure how good it'll be (only cam on hand is my cell).

I put it in the primary (top) slot.
