few questions

1.)ok i have an old compaq 500 and a copy of vista lite. it only needs 256 ram to run smoothly without areo. but im not sure if it would install correctly. and once i get it installed where could i find the motherboard drivers? or would i need them.i have a oem xp disk that i can put on it to but i was just not sure if i needed a mb driver.
2.) when turning the Compaq on it sounds like a plane taking off but once it finishes starting up it is fine. it sounds like a fan could it be the power supply? i can not tell where it is coming from

fans always come on full blast until after it has booted to a certain boot.

IMO 256mb for vista lite just aint enough. you could try it and put on xp if its too slow. also they probably dont have vista drivers for your laptop

it is a desktop and the minimum require ments say 256 for vista lite i have xp lite to but i can not get the time to work

and for the fan you may find that the screw that is holding one of the fans on is getting a bit loose so its rattles and makes a bigger sound, and just take of the case and have a look how much dust is in the fans and get rid of some of it that should help.

i have dusted many of times even replaced the back fan

have a look at all of the fans and see if they are in there right, it might just be a matter of a little oiling
