Fedora Core 4 Troubles

Hi people and especially the linux users or those who have extensive knowledge in it, i need your help on 2 questions ...

Well ... i have a NP1100 Fast Ethernet Adaptor and have been trouble trying to network with another computer, i've done this with windows before but i've never tried it with linux or the distribution that i'm using, fedora core 4
Is it even possible that i am able to network a windows computer with a linux one so that they can both have access to the internet ? If so, how ?

Sorry for wasting your time with questions which may be simple, i am just new this whole world of linux, i have heard many good things about it and i absolutely agree, i just haven't gotten around to getting it working for me yet

As long as its a wired connection it should work just fine. You can access data from your Windows partitions using Samba.

Yes it's possible to network windows and Linux machines together. When you say you are having trouble networking the Linux machine, can you access the Internet? Can you access shared files from the windows machines?

If all you are trying to do is share the Internet connection, you just need to have a router. If you are trying to share files with windows machines you need to install/configure samba. Heres a samba how-to:

Also instead of setting up samba, you could always run a ftp server on the Linux box to share files.

Hmm ... with Fedora Core 4, i can connect to the internet but i am having troubles with the networking, but i can't access the shared files from the windows machine because i haven't even been able to establish a connection, but since fedora core 4 runs on fat and windows runs on ntfs, wouldn't they both be incompatible ? I haven't got much knowlege about linux right now so this is the reason why i need some introducing ...
I will try Samba once i get back to my own computer seeing as i am replying using a schools one

GNU/Linux does not run on FAT. It has its own filesystems. GNU/Linux has read and write support for NTFS now.

Yeah as mentioned above, Linux does not run on FAT. It uses unix filesystems like ext3 and reiserfs. You might want to read this:
