Much to my own chagrin, this game actually works and runs pretty well under NT 3.51, although at startup it complained about missing DirectX drivers (which this OS doesn't support, anyway). I also have a copy of Unreal Gold, although I haven't bothered testing to see if it works. WinQuake and Quake 2, though, didn't fall for the "trick" and refused to run.
 
UT and Unreal, in my opinion, still look near top-notch in my opinion, even for a 7-8 year old game. And its software rendering mode is perhaps the best looking around.

I recall seeing pre-release screenshots from around 1995 or so (however, the site where I saw them no longer exists), and I must say, Epic would have easily brought the entire gaming community to a standstill if it had not released the game so late.
