Hello, my 2 year old Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop (Windows Vista Home Basic) is not restarting. It died on me in the middle of use, so i thought it just overheated (which it does often), waited a few minutes and then rebooted it. But when I rebooted it the usual Dell logo popped up and everything but this black error screen popped up.

Operating System not found

I kept trying to reboot it everytime, but this just kept popping up.
What can his be?

I think its trying to network boot. Either you:
-messed up windows
-have "Network Boot" as first boot choice

Try going into your bios and making boot from the hard drive first.

its the hard drive.

since its starting up the motherboard, cpu and ram is fine. Windows is not starting up so there must be a break in the connection between the hard drive and motherboard or the hard drive itself.

Try to go into bios and see if it detects the hard drive.
