DVD Drive slowdowns.

ok so i have this DVD drive in my PC,
is there any way to tell what its max read speed is without taking it out of the PC?

I was wandering this because normally it doesn't take this long to read a DVD, i am trying to install Resident Evil 5, it has been installing now for about 40mins and its only at 20ish %.

I doubt it should take that long.

Ideas?

Scratched disk? Go under your Hardware manager and find the model number. Google it and find the specs for your drive.

Check to see if it went into PIO mode. After so many read errors windows will automatically switch a drive to PIO mode and it is very slow. Go into your devies manager and make sure your controller that is controlling this DVD drive is using something besides PIO.

If it is in PIO just uninstall it and reboot, windows will automatically reinstall it using the fastest setting again.
