I'm using windows 8 and trying to install Ubuntu onto a new partition on my internal hard drive. I tried using unetbootin but after loading the iso into unetbootin and restarting my computer, it says windows failed to start after selecting unetbootin in the os selection menu at startup. though I'm still able to go back and startup windows without a problem. How do I install Ubuntu into a new partition without using a USB or DVD? Please help its driving me crazy for something that should be pretty straightforward.

After the initial steps of creating a partition for your ubuntu and getting the iso file you could use a virtual boot manager like Grub2Win.
In it you can go and click "Add new entry", choose type iso and select your file. After adding the entry you should reboot and see Grub2 menu where you can select your ubuntu or windows. From there it should be smooth sailing.

Just know you might have issues if you have UEFI Secure Boot enabled. You could try disabling it in BIOS just in case.
