It's not pointless because it is getting my view and seeing what other people think as well. The point is not whether people are going to do it, but whether they are technically allowed to.

No. They are technically not allowed to download it. Same as you are not allowed to record TV for a friend to watch. You are only allowed to timeshift for personal use.

I download television shows in order to watch them. Well, for my wife to watch them, as I seldom do. We do not get to watch them when they air, and it is the only way we can see them. We don't download them to sell them or distribute them; it is a dead-end download.
