Does external drive with os require cooling?

just curious about the question. Whats the reason behind asking it? If you don't mind

most internal drives aren't even cooled.

A lot of cases out there have the hard drives mounted behind the front intake fan. What you don't want is hot air to just sit around baking the hard drive. I had this problem when I had a hard drive mounted above my disc drive. It got burning hot to the touch.

This is all hearsay, but from what I've read you want to stay at or under 50*C. 55* is pushing it, if you ask me. I've heard (again, who knows...) that temperature is why laptop HDDs can fail quicker in some cases than normal drives...because they have little to no cooling...but who knows. I'm sure someone here does...
