Im planning on buying 512 mb more RAM (i already have 512, so there will be 1024...), but what type of RAM do i need to buy? i got a dimension 5000..

preferably exactly like the one u have now. But the manufacturer isn't so important, the most important thing is that it's the same speed as the one u have now. I don't know if the timings should also be the same.

This depends on your motherboard, and also on the spec already in your system.

Download this program, Its for telling you what your computer contains, and there is a RAM section which will give you the pseed the motherboard supports, and the RAM speed in at the moment (aim for that):

http://www.lavalys.com/products/overview.php?pid=1&lang=en

When you run the program, go to the Motherboard button, then to SPD.

It'll tell you the make of RAM and also the speed here. Take note of both as its actually best to get the same make too on some models. If not possible though, aim for the speed given.

Mine for example is PC3200 which is rather standard nowadays, and is also named DDR400.

i hope this helps :)

Oh lol yea...I forgot the model number of the PC was listed :p

So it supports PC3200, and higher than that too :s Thats weird...

If its a DELL (best check that program I gave you), they might have given you the slower RAM at DDR300, so just check before buying.
