Dell Inspiron 17R cooling fans won't start

In most cases, laptops use a ball grid array. Just another way of saying there is no CPU socket; the CPU is soldered directly to the motherboard. Upgrade options for laptops are limited to the hard drive and RAM.

I am more familiar with working on desktops than laptops but I don't think changing CPU's causes any issues unless it is seated wrong. Be sure to have thermal paste to put onto it when you reinstall the heatsink or it won't cool correctly
Right on. Thanks, I am somewhat familiar with desktops also. It's the laptops that scare me. They are so tight and complicated to work on. I'm afraid of messing it up. I'm going to try and upgrade it though so I'll cross my fingers and hope for the best.
