it doesnt really delete it. just lets you overwrite it. thats why you can recover a lot after a fresh format. wont do any damage. just might cause some fragmentation over time if you have odd crap everywhere

all i can suggest is defragmenting, and formatting every 6-12 months if the pc starts to lag.
other than that theres no really negative effect, unless you consider the fact a hdd can only be written to a certain amount of times, but its ALOT
