decrypting aes 256

this is probably a stupid question, which is a good way to start. ive just backed up my laptop with acronis and gave it a p/w and encrypted in aes 256. so if i plug in my ext. hdd into a friends pc, does it just need the password to get into the files there? or does it need to be decrypted as well? thankyou

To my knowledge, the password should be all that's needed to decrypt it. I could be wrong though.
