Hi I have a Sony Vaio Laptop

Took the hdd out and connected it to an external enclosure to move some of the files to my desktop quickly

Never ended up working

Plugged it back into the laptop - now it is saying Operating System Not Found

Anyway I can recover the data?

I use Hiren's Boot CD's mini XP utility for things like that

do you think you could elaborate a little bit? I've used R-Studio in the past. However when I connect the drive to the external enclosure it doesn't even recognize it.

could you provide some details on how that process will work?

You'd boot to the cd, it gives you the option to start mini xp. It start the mini xp program and if your computer recognizes the hard drive you shoul just be able to browse to the hard drive and make backups. once thats done u reformat the system

thanks for the info - i didn't try it with mini xp but actually did the same thing with linux but the drive actually doesn't recognize at all - when powered up the drive is working

any other suggestions?

If nothing recognises it then it's possible you damaged it whilst moving it. Also, are you sure you're definitely connecting the cables up properly?
