custom rig? super high end

hello this is my first post


I know about what i want to build but i dont know what computer tech is out there


I am wanting to build a i7 ivy bridge with tesla cards

w/ 4 pci-e slots if possible if not, thats fine

what i cant find a board with enough max ram

in the rang of 128 - 512 gb

and ive herd some amd server boards have over 512 gb
w/ support for 8 cpus generally the more ram on the amd the better

yet i cant seem to find any

cost is of no issue

I appreciate all responses.

I encourage everyone that knows something to chime in regardless to how stupid it may feel to you (so long as it pertains to what i am seeking in my post)

You want 128-512GB of RAM? Are you sure you don't just mean storage, as in SSDs or HDDs?

If not, what the heck do you need so much RAM for?

Sounds like you are looking for a server (that's the only way you'll get want you want). As stated, just buy a new one from your choice of brand (Dell, HP, whatever).

the ram is for a ram disk, what i do requires alot

i was going to use both the intel ivy bridge type cpu and an amd setup


amd set up because

correct me if im wrong, i think i came across where amd had over 1TB of ram
and 1 slot for a gpu

i will have 2 of these, one for a ram disk media server
and another for my project

do any of you know a intel work station with server cpus that can take Tesla cards and have a decent amount of ram


one thing i like doing in my off time with the ram is using a gaming gpu with all that ram and loading up an entire game into ram, loading times are virtually non existent. its awesome esp with watching Blu-ray movies that i have made a full 1:1 back up of.

Was the "RAM" used to store stuff on like music and videos?

It just seems like the only way you would ever need more than 16Gb of RAM (8GB of fast RAM is plenty these days) is if you were a medium sized business running either lots of smaller virtual machines or a beasty SQL server or something extremely intensive.

With this huge amount of "RAM" are you looking to store music and videos on it?

You are going to have to do a better job of explaining what you want to do. As you can probably gather, most of us here are confused.

Keep in mind if you are referring just to RAM (as in - THIS) then you are also limited by the Operating System on the computer.

I also found this LINK where they have "super computers" and one of them does in fact have 1TB RAM.

i know games dont use much ram, on the other hand to load them up is another, i really like loading up id rage to a my ram disk its awesome

plus having that much ram for all of your most used media for all of your room mates is a plus, @ super speed streaming

a regular i7 ivy bridge rig would be fine except i cant find any comsumer motherboard that support over 32gb

so if any one knows any intel workstation that can take tesla cards and supports 128 - 256 + GB ram

Could you take a minute or two to let us know exactly what you are using your computer for?

This may be a blinded opinion of mine but personally i think if you genuinely need a computer with 512Gb of RAM then you should know what you are looking for?

Can you elaborate your last point about streaming media?
The amount of media you can stream is going to be primarily down to network speed, wether this be wireless or wired. Your PC itself is almost irrelivant as long as it's half decent having 512Gb RAM wouldnt give you any benifit here.

I really am struggling to think of what an average user or even an intensive user could not do on a decent i7 with 8Gb RAM that he could do with a server and 512Gb RAM? Could you let us know exactly what your intentions are for this pc?
