I might be looking to go from a single core cpu to a dual core cpu. If I do this, what differences will I notice? Also, can someone be kind enough and specifically, tell me which CPU would be compatible with my mobo. IF you also would not mind show me a few links to those cpu's. My mobo is an intel d945gtp. I would really appreciate the help.

thx

This should be good for you. Intel Core 2 Duo E7400

But if your budget is tight, this would still be MUCH better than a single-core
Pentium Dual-Core E2200

maybe do a bit of research before telling people what to get.

According to your mobo, the D945GTP, it doesnt support the C2 series, the highest Dual Core you can get is an Pentium D. There are Dual Core P4s and Celerons, but I dont know if your mobo would be compatible. I guess you check the name on the list.

The Pentium D doesnt give much of a performance compared to an higher clocked P4. The Pentium D is possibly the worst Dual core ever made. Might be better to get a new Mobo first.

What CPU do you have now?

Yes, that is what I used. It says Socket 775 LGA as stated above. Does that sound right? If so, what could I use as dual core, please?

thx

the 775 LGA is the socket type of the CPU.
Can you take a screenshot of the CPU-Z window?
